PlantBenavidez: Result & Score Card

With a contender for fight of the year, and it is till only March, Caleb Plant & David Benavidez went head to head in what could only be described as an all out war. With so much bad blood between the two, this was always going to explode and that it did. Plant got off to a good start, catching Benavidez and then waiting for the counters. You could see that it was frustrating Benavidez in the first half of the fight as he was constantly chasing Plant.

Eventually, it seemed that Plant’s engine had started running on it’s reserve tank as he started to fade in the second half of the fight, allow Benavidez to turn up the heat and finally hone in on Plant. He was landing at will and Plant didn’t have the legs to get out of the way. The monster came out in Benavidez as we entered into the last few rounds and it looked like he was almost about to stop Plant. 

As the two heard the bell to enter round 12, there was a touch of gloves that many believed was a mutual sign of respect between the two, despite the bad blood. Plant surely give it a go, knowing it was the final round, but came up short and likely tired himself out. Benavidez still had the better round even with Plant’s champion-like courage. The bell rung and both hugged it out and shared a moment that, as any boxing fan enjoys, was a sign of respect as a fighter.

We scored the fight the same as judge Tim Cheatham. Giving Plant 5 rounds in the beginning and Benavidez the other 7.
